Silver spoons are traditionally given as Christening presents to babies.
In Wales, intricately carved wooden Love Spoons are given as tokens of romantic intent.
Many people acquire a collection of odd, quirky spoons over a lifetime.
Between the Covid ‘lockdowns’, I borrowed spoons from friends and relatives as subject matter for these small, painted compositions. Every spoon is different. I requested that they should not be polished, as I like to include the patina of age.
I have used oil paint over a collaged newspaper background in order to get a strong contrast with the shiny metallic quality of the spoons.
